The Unit Converter Utility
This utility is designed to convert to and from hundreds of unit types in 75 categories (see below).
In the example below, we selected the AREA category and wanted to convert 254.77 U.S. acres to arpents used in Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi and Florida.
You would read this as "254.77 U.S. acres approximately equals 301.057602361719 arpents."
To use this utility:
Select a category.
Select a "convert from" type then select a "convert to" type.
Enter the value to convert FROM.
As you enter the convert FROM value, the result will be shown in the button located in the upper right of the dialog (updated as you type).
If you're looking for a type that is not visible, start typing the name of the type you're looking for, and if it's in the list box, you will be "taken" to it.
This utility is designed to "stay on top" while you work. It can also be minimized and restored when needed.

The International System of Units
Our Unit Converter adopts the standards set forth by the International System of Units.
The International System of Units, abbreviated and commonly known as the SI, is officially known as
Le Système International d'Unités and is overseen by the Bureau International des Poinds et Mesures
located near Paris, France. Their website is
and their mission, as quoted from that website, is to "provide the basis for a single, coherent
system of measurements throughout the world, traceable to the International System of Units..."
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has an excellent discussion of the SI at
